Please check flights for delays and cancellations before leaving for the airport.
It's a good idea to bring handi-wipes, fresh bedding or something to put in the carrier for the drive home. Sometimes they arrive spotless, but other times have arrived very messy.
Leash and a collar or harness is always nice to have, if you plan to make a stop.
Take airbill # and Cargo phone number for the airline used. I can answer most of your questions and concerns. Sometimes I don't receive airbill and flight info. until the day before the flight, but will forward it to you as soon as possible.
Shipping live animals is much different than shipping cargo or passengers. Although they are in a climate controlled area, if there are extreme temps., the airline will not risk the puppies being exposed loading and unloading in severe temps. However, due to the extra care that is given, they are shipped according to temps at time of departure, connection and arrival. Sometimes I don't know until I arrive at the airport if they cannot depart on that flight or that day. I will contact you as soon as possible. If you don't hear from me then everything is on schedule.
The best way to treat a new puppy that has just left his/her littermates and traveled by car or plane is like a newborn baby. Give them a few days to adjust, limit excitement, visitors and more travel. Especially until they have their third vaccination. You may want to moisten their food to encourage them to eat. With some extra loving care, they will adjust very quickly. If stools are loose, puppychow with lamb, chicken and rice seems to really help. Don't panic if there is a trace of blood in the stool, as sometimes after stress, this accompanies loose stools. As long as they are eating, drinking well and not lethargic, vomiting or excessive watery stools, there should be no cause for concern.
We have never had a serious problem, but it is always good to be aware of your puppy's well being.
